With 28 No. 1s on the chart, he passes Marc Anthony. Manuelle also ties Enrique Iglesias for the most leaders on any Latin songs chart.
Victor Manuelle sets a new record on Tropical Songs airplay chart (which dates to 1994), as “Imaginar,” with Yandel, becomes his 28th topper. The song hops 3-1 on the July 16-dated chart with a 20 percent rise in plays at the format, according to Nielsen Music.
Manuelle breaks out of a tie for the most Tropical Songs No. 1s with Marc Anthony, who had shared the mark since he led for four weeks beginning March 26 as featured on Gente de Zona’s “Traidora.” (Yandel, meanwhile, earns his third Tropical Songs chart-topper with the coronation of “Imaginar.”)
“Imaginar” premiered with a performance by Manuelle and Yandel at the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which were broadcast live from Miami April 28 on Telemundo. At the show, Manuelle took home the award for tropical album of the year for his latest set,Que Suenen Los Tambores.
Renowned salsa artist Manuelle boasts a long history of partnering with urban acts like Yandel. He spent a week at No. 1 in 2012 with “Ella Lo Que Quiere Es Salsa,” featuring Voltio and Jowell & Randy. He has also recorded with acts including Don Omar, Hector “El Father” and Yomo.
Notably, the crowning rise of “Imaginar” also ties Manuelle with Enrique Iglesias for the most No. 1s on any Latin genre songs chart: Iglesias has achieved 28 No. 1s on the overall Latin Airplay chart, with his latest, “Duele El Corazon,” featuring Wisin, leading for a seventh (nonconsecutive) week this week.
Manuelle first reached No. 1 on Tropical Songs in 1996 and has placed more songs on the chart than any other artist. With 63, he outpaces runner-up Anthony, with 51.
